Dreamboat Café Under New Ownership
Annette Seiler has been cooking and creating for others for four years as a personal chef, while teaching skiing on the mountain for the past 20. When she saw that the Dreamboat Café was for sale, she knew it was something she wanted to do. Seiler and husband, Bill Stewart, a school and event photographer, are the new owners of the Old Town Hot Springs snack shop.
Seiler says, “I’m looking forward to having the daily contact with people. That will be fun because everybody comes here all the time.” She hopes to bring more of a café atmosphere to the Dreamboat Café. There is a high-end Italian espresso machine which Seiler wants more people to know about. “We brew Lavazza coffee.” The restaurant will be open through Oct. 15 and then closed for a remodel, with plans to re-open in mid-December.
The new owners are anxious to provide a top-notch menu. Seiler says, “I’ve always loved working with food. I’m looking forward to improving the menu and seeing what people’s opinions are.” Email your comments to dreamboatcafe@yahoo.com
Changes Are On The Way
The Old Town Hot Springs has been researching better ways to keep track of members, guests, and visitors to the facility. A new computer system will soon be installed to better facilitate who is coming and going. Turnstiles will also be installed at the front desk. We hope these changes in the security system will benefit all members, guests, and employees.
Daily admission prices will also be going up Nov. 1. These prices will not affect Lifetime and non-Lifetime Members, but the day guests and visitors. The rate increase is being done in order to provide a quality experience, while continuing to improve the facility, and plan future renovations and additions to the Old Town Hot Springs.
Poochy Paddle Returns
Bring the pup down to the pool for the return of the Poochy Paddle, fall edition. Dogs are welcome to swim in the lap pool on the afternoon before it is emptied and cleaned. The date is Sunday, Oct. 18, from 2-5:00. Sign up at the front desk for a pre-purchased ticket of $5 per dog. Those without a ticket will pay $10 per dog at the door on the day of the event. Please enter with your dogs at the back gate.
In addition, please bring a dog or cat food donation for the Steamboat Springs Animal Shelter. The shelter is especially in need of dry food for dogs, cats, and kittens, as well as cat litter.
The Poochy Paddle was last held in April, with several hundred dogs in attendance. Pictures of the event and the happy dogs are on the Old Town Hot Springs website. Click Here. The video of the event is also on the website. Click here.
Cleaning Scheduled for Lap Pool And Hot Pool
The lap pool will be closed for cleaning after the Poochy Paddle on Sunday evening, Oct. 18-24. Power washing and muriatic acid are used to clean any stains caused by the natural mineral waters. It takes 26 hours to refill the lap pool with the hot water straight from the hot spring. The lap pool is expected to reopen by the following Saturday, in pristine condition with sparkling clear water. The Hot Pool will be closed Oct. 8 at 10:30 a.m. until Sunday morning, Oct. 11, to be cleaned.

Member of the Month
Talking to people and making friends is what Lloyd Shenfield enjoys most about the Old Town Hot Springs. The October Member of the Month spends most of his time doing free weights and machines as well as aerobics classes. He says it’s a social thing. “It’s an opportunity to get to know all kinds of interesting people with different backgrounds, different careers, and different reasons for moving to Steamboat.” Shenfield joined the facility 14 years ago after moving to Steamboat from the Front Range. He gets in his workout in late afternoon, before the after-work rush.
Massage Specials
The massage therapists at the Old Town Hot Springs are offering a fall season special for members only. They will knock $10 off a one-hour or one-and-a-half hour massage, beginning Oct. 1 through Nov. 30. The cost is $50/hour and $80/1.5 - hour massage. This price cannot be used to purchase gift certificates.
Spin Into Shape
Old Town Hot Springs Spin classes begin Nov. 2. Sign up the day before class or the day of class. Or call the front desk to reserve your spin bike. Members may buy a 10-punch class card for $30. Individual classes are $4, $7 for a guest, or $12 for non-members.
Fitness Facts & Fun
The Fitness Center will be getting busier as the days get colder and the winter snow starts to fly. A few simple rules make it easier for everyone to share the equipment.
• Sign up for your machine. Sign-up sheets are upstairs. You may reserve a machine the day before by calling the front desk or stopping by the facility. You may reserve a machine on the day you want to use it by stopping by and signing up for that particular piece of cardio equipment. You may sign up in 30-minute increments. If you are five minutes late for the equipment for which you have signed up, you may lose your spot to another user. When you are finished with your workout, please be courteous and prompt in getting off your machine.
• Wipe down the machine and equipment that you are using. Disinfectant spray and towels are available. Hand sanitizer machines are also throughout the building. This is a way we can all avoid germs and getting sick during the winter months.
• The music in the Fitness Center is the Classic Rock station from XM Radio. While everyone has a different taste in music, it has proven to be a neutral fit for all. You are welcome to wear your own headphones or Ipod if you object to the music.
• All members are invited to learn how to use the weight and cardio equipment in the Fitness Center. Sign up at the front desk for a free orientation.
• It is important not to drop the free weights on the floor of the Fitness Center, which is the upper floor of the building. This can cause structural damage to the floor, even though the floor has been reinforced. It also gives a huge jolt to members and employees on the lower level. Please help by also letting any teenage family members know as well.

• Use the fitness machines between 1:30 and 3:30 in the afternoon if you prefer to work out at a quieter time of the day,
A tremendous variety of fitness classes are available in the Fitness Center, on the upper level of the Old Town Hot Springs. You’ll find Spin, Step, Pilates, Yoga, Total Fitness, Turbo Kickbox, and more.

Water Shoes Welcome
Water shoes are welcome in the pools at the Old Town Hot Springs but conditionally. Please do not wear shoes (Crocs, water socks, aqua shoes, or sandals) in the pool that have been worn on the street or in the locker rooms. Germs from outside are then transferred directly to the pool. Put your clean water shoes on at the side of the pool if you want to wear them into the pool. This makes for cleaner water for everyone.
Take A Lap
To swim a mile at the Old Town Hot Springs, you would have to swim 1,650 yards. That’s the distance recognized as a mile in the international swimming community. The Lap Pool is 25 yards, which equates to 66 lengths of the pool, or 33 laps. It’s a good workout. Just imagine swimming all the way up Spring Creek Trail. Your heart rate would get going. Intersperse your workout with kicking. Grab a kickboard and kick a few 100 yards. Use flippers or don’t. Race the interval clock. If you are looking for a unique workout, checkout some of the swimming workouts the Steamboat Masters Swimmers have provided.
