Front Desk Changes
The front desk at the Old Town Hot Springs has been undergoing a transformation. Turnstiles have been installed on both sides. They are state of the art, with the exit turnstile motion activated. They are expected to be fully operational in early December.
Each member will get a fingerprint scan, which is what will trigger the turnstile to enter the facility. Danielle Martin with M2SYS Accelerated Biometrics Technology says, "Our biometric methods are absolutely secure and pose no threats to privacy." Fingerprint data is not stored. Instead, it is encrypted into its own algorithm.
The company's website says, "The system then uses the identity template to recognize that person on an ongoing basis. The identity template is simply a data file, a series of zeros and ones that cannot be used to reconstruct the actual fingerprint image. Without a copy of the image itself, no one could perform analysis or comparison of the fingerprint."
It is difficult for the front desk staff to monitor the many guests and members coming in and out of the facility. This will make it safer and more efficient for everyone. Stop by the front desk to get your fingerprint scanned on your next visit. For more information on the fingerprint scanner, Click Here.

Facebook Fun
The Old Town Hot Springs has a Facebook page, and you are invited to be a Facebook "Fan." The page is under "Old Town Hot Springs," at www.Facebook.com It is frequently updated with fun pictures, news, and events. The latest shots are of Gizmo, the doggie mascot of the pool. Or you might see a friend taking a soak in the heart pool on a snowy winter day.
Proud Pentathlon Participants
It's a crazy fun pentathlon held every November, during Parent/Teacher conferences, at the Old Town Hot Springs. The second annual event brought 20 teams and over 100 kids from Christian Heritage, Soda Creek, Strawberry Park, and the Steamboat Springs Middle School to play in the pools and participate in the event. The five legs of the pentathlon included running up the slide stairs, sliding down the water slide, and then running, kayaking, and swimming the length of the lap pool.
The new defending champs are a group of 8th grade girls who are also junior lifeguards or swim instructors at the Old Town Hot Springs. Congratulations to the team of "The Wigglers:" Maddie Ruppel, Marley Loomis, Malia Fraioli, Kelly Borgerding, and Emma Wilson. Thanks to the many parents who helped, Pete Van de Carr who donated the kayaks, and David Wallace who helped the kids with the boating portion of the event.
Event Pictures
Parties, pentathlons, and pumpkins are just a few of the exciting things happening at the Old Town Hot Springs. If you have attended one of the fun events this past summer, you might have had your picture taken. Event images are on the Old Town Hot Springs website. Take a peek, when you get a chance. Member of the Month
It's hard to catch a glimpse of the December Member of the Month. John Ward is always in the lap pool, swimming laps just about every day. Ward swims 5000 yards every time he gets in the pool, which is almost two miles, or 200 lengths of the pool. He set a goal in May to swim one million yards in a year, in an effort to get in shape while approaching his 50th birthday next summer. He used to be on the Steamboat Swim Team back in the late Sixties.
Ward says, "I've never really accomplished any goal in my life," so he plans to do this one. He said he did the math one day and figured he could swim 5000 yards a day for 200 days in a year. He has accomplished about 75 perfect of his goal.

Dreamboat Café

The Dreamboat Café has undergone a fantastic "facelift." The restaurant was completely taken apart, cleaned extensively, painted, and put back together again, by new owners Annette Seiler and Bill Stewart. Kathy Gayer provided the new artwork on the walls.
The menu has been revised. The old favorites are still there, but some healthier choices have been added, reflecting what the members want and told the new owners in their surveys. The Dreamboat Café will reopen Friday, Dec. 18, with a Grand Opening celebration. The fun starts around lunchtime, at noon, with free samples of the new menu items.
